One of the girls we just hired in Shanghai told in her resumé that she is a passionate knitter. I suppose that kind of information is rarely found in american resumés, or maybe I am wrong. Anyway, I thought it was kind of cute and happy that her technical qualifications was sufficient to grant her a second round of interviews, and eventually a contract.
It is something about knitting that gives you a feeling of relaxation. But I don't knitt.
My mom taught me how to when I was about six years old, and yes I have made some hidious jumpers and scarves in the past. But I soon lost interest, and preferred to crochet table cloths instead. I know it was all about the pattern - crocheting gave me freedom to create a pattern that was visible to me from the beginning (not like a knitted jumper; one back one front and two arms...).
But no one ever said that knitting must be boring and predicitve. Swedish designer Sandra Backlund, who won the Hyerés 2007 festival, has opened my eyes once more. Creativity is about thinking in a new way. Don't let your "knowledge" stop you, at the end of the day it's all about having fun.

I like crocheting as well, though I am not good at it. Knitting just makes me nervous--though I did once knit mittens for a boyfriend, with snowmen on them, red and white. And a huge and funny looking coverlet in shades of teal and green and blue, back in my college years when I had a lot of bus rides to deal with, from college to work to home. Like you I like the pattern in crochet, and I like the simplicity of one needle only.
Here the daffodils have started blooming--we will make it through the winter!
Hi Nyx,
Homeyra tagged me and in turn I have to tag 6 other people. So, I would like to enlist you in this round of tagging game if you don’t mind. Please check out the rules on Homeyra’s or on my blog under Six under 18 memes . Thank you and I love to read yours.
Hi Nyx, you have been posting a lot lately! Sorry I missed a few. These knitted dresses are a bit outrageous! ;) I learned to knit a little when I was a kid, but nothing fancy. I have made a few small scarfs, but nothing big enough for me to wear. Its been a number of years since I held any knitting needles. My mother was quite good at knitting. She made socks and clothes. I never had the patience to try anything complex though.
So, how much longer are you stuck in Shanghai?
And with Edith Pilaf en vogue again, reminds me of her liking to knit, too.
And that in my last school year in Iran, we were supposed to knit socks: our grandma did ours and the teacher was wondering what an "archaic" style we had used! ;)
